Question:

Questions on kids flying alone...

My two kids will be flying home alone in August from Florida to Philadelphia. They are 16 and 2, both have flown many times (in the past month 4 times each). My oldest is not considered an unaccompanied minor so the airline does not have any policies in place for her. Although she is extremely confident in bringing herself and her baby brother home I was wondering if the airport would still allow a gate access pass to their grandmother when they depart so she can be with them at the gate. Has anyone had this type of experience before?

Thanks!

  1. Airlines vary in their policy. The best thing to do would be to call customer service for the airline before they go, explain the situation. Most airlines will make an exception by listing your two year old as traveling alone and will give you a contact name for the airport of departure/arrival for the grandmother.

  2. Most airlines will provide the gate pass for departure; just give them a call.

  3. It shouldn't be a problem, but like someone else said, contact the airline that they are flying to find out the specific details for your airline.

  4. i flew alone from california to iowa and they gave passes to both my mother to drop me off and to my friends mother to pick me up, and vice versa when i went home. there should be no problem.
