Questions on surfing in hawaii?

I am moving to hawaii, and was told i will need to learn hot to surf to fit in, is this true? Also can you surf year round in hawaii? What time of day, and year is the surf up?

There are more people that don't surf than surf here in Hawaii, so don't be concerned about having to surf to be "in."  Hawaii is like any place, so you should pursue your true interests and make friends around what you like to do.  You'll be pleasantly surprised to find that making friends with people who share your interests is not that hard here in Hawaii.  Just remember that making friends is not about promoting yourself, but showing others that you are interested in them as well.

If you do take up surfing, you can do it year round.  Different spots break during different seasons.  You will find out for yourself about what time of day is best.  It really is a matter of personal taste.

surf year round. Lahaina is a great place to start out. Work your way to Oahu and you'll have a blast

if you are doing it just to fit in, you are going to be one of those jackasses who think they surf better than everyone and be super cocky, you bring that here to hawaii you're lookin to get punched in the face. if you really want to surf, do it but dont be thatass. there are pleny hawaiians that dont surf. so be cool, and have respect. and dont ,move to hawaii to be cool, learn the culture first, and appreciate our beautiful islands.
