  1. The hypothalamus is responsible for regulatory and motivated behaviors including:

    temperature regulation; reproduction; eating; drinking; cardiac functions; hormonal release; fight or flight response

    The thalamus functions as a relay center for incoming sensory information. It directs these sensory impulses to the appropriate brain area for processing.

    The brain stem contains the medulla which in part controls respiration (breathing)
