Question:

Questions on tooth extraction?

I had to have a tooth pulled yesterday that was broken from a habit of grinding my teeth. I could not afford a crown so I told them to pull it. So.. When they did, ( it was the lower bottom back tooth) the dentist, who was pretty tough looking himself, took over an hour to extract. Plus the injections were at least 5 of them since he said I had an extra nerve, as well as him telling me that I had something where the tooth was connected to bone maybe or something? But it is pretty sore around my jaw and I looked and it looks discolored where they extracted in the back. I have not smoked or ate anything tough. Just soup and ramen noodles and washed with saltwater. But it hurts more than my wisdom teeth did and was just wondering if the pain and color is normal. Thanks for any answers

  1. Be careful with it. You can get what they call a dry socket.

Read this below and google dry socket and see if it may be the cause.

Dry socket (alveolar osteitis) is a dental condition that occurs when the blood clot at the site of a tooth extraction is dislodged, exposing underlying bone and nerves and causing increasing pain. It's the most common complication following tooth extractions, such as the removal of impacted wisdom teeth. But with proper postoperative dental care and avoidance of risk factors, dry socket often can be prevented. When it does occur, treatment usually provides immediate relief.

Also I had a wisdom tooth pulled once and he was pretty rough and three months later I had bone splinters work their way through my gum. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced.

Most Dentist will warn you about rinsing your mouth out after a dental extraction due to the chance of dislodging the blood clot needed in the socket. Mine have told me before to go without brushing the first twenty four hours and no rinsing for a few days.

    You can eat.

Good luck and let me know back what you find out.
