In life, most people have a mind-boggling question on thier minds until they find out the answer..for example mine is 'Why did whoever named the colors name them that color, like black..since its all the colors why not name it 'all' or something? ' lol. wierd but ive always wanted to know!

If you have a mind-boggling question or ever have..please do tell what it was =]

  5. Some baffling questions that bother me from time to time:

Do other people see colors differently than I do? For example, does purple look like my green to other people? There's no way to tell, either, unless I could read other people's minds!

I've pondered this one since roughly second grade:

  10. Many things I'd like to know--what was the first night of _King Lear_ like; what made the matter out of which was created the big bang--are not researchable. People have lied to me; I'd like to know the truth, but they won't tell, so I can't know. I'd like to know what it is like to inhabit another consciousness, assuming there are other consciousnesses to inhabit. This also is impossible.

Questions such as you asked, however, are answerable, up to a point. Language is historically explicable. Researching the derivations of words will make the reason that a word means what it does apprehensible, at least to a limited degree. Ultimately why a set of sounds come to represent or be associated with a concept is not explicable, any more than why we conceive of a certain set of concepts, group them or frame them as we do, is explicable.

Language controls our thinking more than we control it, and it is a quandary impossible to escape: we can't think about language except through language. A complete understanding will never be achieved. As Corinthians says, we see as through a glass darkly (1 Corinthians, 13: 11). I'd like to be another entity and be myself simultaneously, but I might as well ask the person who lied to me to tell the truth: it will not happen.
