Question:

Questions to ask a potential new Nanny?

We are doing our first interview today on our Nanny search, and I am not sure what kind of questions to ask her and how to go about doing it. She is bringing her resume with her tonight, so once I have a look at that a few questions might come to me, but what are the basics?

Thank you!

  1. One important thing to remember is that your nanny follows your parenting style. If you don't believe in time-outs, or you always want your child to have a nap at 2 p.m., make sure the nanny follows your rules. Be sure to get a real feel for their beliefs in child care. Another good indication is to see how your child acts around them. Children generally have a good sense about who they are comfortable with. I would definitely have your child meet your potential nannies before you hire one. Good luck!

  2. My advice would be to ask if you can pay for her to do a days trial. We had a Nanny who ticked all of the boxes and answered the quesitons correctly, but she was just not the one for us.

We then had another lady come for the day and she was perfect. As I work from home I got to see both in action.

Also don't be put off by age. The first lady had been a Nanny for years, where as the 2nd lady was only 23, this was a first Nanny position (she had previously worked in a nursery). Yet our son has come on in leaps and bounds since her arrival.

  3. *How long do you plan on being a nanny to my child(children)?

*How do you deal with stressful situations?

*Have you ever been arrested/convicted of any crime? If so, explain.

*Do you have any outstanding warrants?

*How many traffic violations do you have within the past 6 years? (if you are planning on her driving your child anywhere)

*Explain a normal day you would plan with my child (children).

*Do you have any health issues I should be concerned about?

*Have you ever been fired from a nanny position? If so, explain.

*Would you say you have a temper?
