  1. red means danger on most firearms. Red showing means it's ready to fire. To test, remove magazine from firearm, pull slide back and lock it in the rear word position. Physically look into the chamber to verify it is unloaded, don't be afraid to push a pencil or cleaning rod thru from the barrel end until you can see it in the cleared chamber. remove pencil etc, lower the slide to the fully closed position. aim the firearm in a completely safe direction, with good backstop and place the safety in one position or the other, attempt to pull the trigger. then move it to the other position and try again. Memorize the safety position so that you can engage and disengage it without looking. Also remember that safeties can fail, so keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. never point the firearm at anything you don't want to shoot.

    shoot safe
