  1. 3 turns are WAY easier! mohawks take a little while!

  2. well- 3 turns are easier to start with. (except backward ones) after that, i learn your mohawk, though it might take a while (6 weeks 4 me!!) But once you have gotten the mohawk down, you will most likely use it more than 3 turns to turn backwards. (i.e. to go into jumps and spins) but, master both because they come up in different patterns, excersizes, and programs. hope i helped!

  3. the 3 turns are way easier to learn.

  4. It depends on the individual To some, 3turns may be easier, and to others mohawk would be their pick.

The mohawk is a two footed turn as opposed to the one footed three-turn.

I hope this entry was helpful to you. Happy skating.

  5. Start with forward 3-turns, outside R&L, then inside R&L.  Mohawks aren't too bad if you do them over and over slowly...BUT be careful not to put the two together.  I have seen a bunch of skaters in my LTS classes do a mohawk by doing an inside 3-turn and putting their back foot down.  It was hard for them to remove the 3-turn to correctly do the mohawk.  :)

  6. I'd be inclined to go for the three turn to start with then, when you've got that under your belt, move onto mohawk. I'm still working on my three turn. I don't feel ready to try mohawk yet.

Kristi Yamaguchi in her book describes the three turn first then the mohawk so I guess thats in order of difficulty.

  7. well i find mohawk easier than 3-turn! im doing a lot of good mohawks rather than three turns!

  8. 3-turn, they just require you to go from forwards to going backwards on an edge. Mowhawks are when u change from one foot to another as well as changing directions.

  9. they are both basic movements but would say a mohawk will be easier as you are transfering weight inside to inside a free turn is a little trickier this is performed on one foot some people i coach learn the mohawk first then the free turn. what i mean is you dont have the worry of standing and performing the movement solely on one foot. the M is performed on both feet and can sturdy you a little.

when doing the free turn do it in 4 counts start in the L position say left arm leading push off while counting bring the right side across the body and on the 4th count turn sharply to backwards bending the knee a little more before turning to help with the turn.

Mohawk same arm as leg practice on barrier first or off ice push onto right forward inside bring the left foot along the inside of right boot turning the left boot to qauter to almost first position in ballet and place down on the ice onto a left back inside edge checking the right arm back looking in the direction you are going.

    happy skating!

  10. If you are doing your forward 3 turns, verses your backward mohawk, I'd say do the 3 turn. Howver, I learned all my mohawks before any 3 turns, but by then I had discovered that 3 turns were too easy compared to them. Backward to forward mohawks are easier than the foward to backward ones (or so they tell me, but for me it's the other way around).

You should learn your backward 3 turns after all the 3 turns and mohawks though.
