Quick Step Cycling team getting stronger – Cycling News
Quick Step has announced that it will be signing three more cyclists including the Velits brothers and the Katusha rider Stijn Vandenbergh in their team. Peter Velits and his twin brother Martin have also shown their interest to join Quick Step Cycling team
as they will be leaving their current team HTC-Highroad.
The Velits brothers have a good understanding amongst them and have always cycled in the same team throughout as they started off their first year with Dukla Trencin and then joined Konica Minolta followed by Wiesenhof-Felt, Milram and then Highroad.
Peter Velits was third overall in the previous Vuelta a Espana and will be a great addition to the team. Patrick Lefevere, team manager of Omega Pharma on signing the cyclists shared his thoughts as he said that Peter is a very skilful cyclist and with him
in the team, the chances to perform better are high and he is the kind of player who can go for general classifications on any event.
He further added, “Peter stood out to us for the good end of season he had last year, which saw him winning a stage and third place in the GC in the Vuelta a Espana and for the good performance at the recent Tour de France.”
Quick step has doubled their strengths after merging with Omega Pharma for the coming seasons and has made the decision of signing the new stars.
On the addition of second Brother Martin in the team Lefevere said, “Martin is an athlete who’s already proven his worth in the young categories and in his first season as a pro, we’re counting on him a lot, since we consider him an athlete who can improve
further on.”
On the third addition to the team he said, “Stijn is a worthy athlete, a specialist in the Classics and a team player.”
Peter on joining the team shared his joy as he said that joining a recognised team like Quick Step is exciting and on top of that he will be riding with his brother in the team. Peter said that he is confident that he will give his best in the team and he
will not let the team down and will pay back the trust team has shown in him.
