Quick Step sign Brian Holm Sorensen as Directeur Sportif for two years – Cycling News
Brian Holm Sorensen who is currently with HTC-Highroad has agreed to join the Belgian team Quick Step for the next two years as team HTC has announced its demise from the professional cycling. Brian is a former professional road cyclist who has ridden from
1986 to 1998 and also holds the honour of riding the Tour de France seven times and finished all seven of them.
The 48-year-old has been with his current team HTC since 2003 and had to choose a different team for the New Year as team HTC has failed to attract any sponsors for the coming season.
Holm is already familiar to Belgian cycling as he has spent quite a lot of time in the country during his cycling career as he mentioned, “I lived in Belgium for 13 years, and Belgium is like a second home for me.”
Quick Step has announced to join hands with another Belgian team Omega Pharma for the coming seasons as Lefevere officially announced the merger earlier this year, “We are very pleased with the deal we reached with Omega Pharma. I would like to thank everyone
involved for their professionalism during the negotiations.”
Holm who will join his new team Quick Step as Directeur Sportif for coming seasons mentioned that he personally knows the Quick Step manager Patrick Lefevere and was deeply moved by the conversation he had with Lefevere about the team’s prospect.
Both had the discussion about the future of team and Holm assured the Quick Step’s manager that he will extend his maximum support to the team and also appreciated the confidence Lefevere had in him.
Lefevere commented on the Danish as he said, “I’ve known Brian for a long time; he always did a good job with all the teams he worked for.”
Quick Step management grabbed upon the opportunity and signed Brian as soon as he was available as they secured his services for the coming two years. It will be interesting to see how Sorensen fairs with the Quick Step team.
