Quick Wit earns a pleasant victory in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes
Nobody expected it but, Quick Wit was the one who prevailed in the Grade 2, $200,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes, which took place at Saratoga on 10th August, 2012.
This was redemption for the charge of Dale Romans, as he bolted through the track and claimed the victory over, Csaba, by a marginal difference of a nose, whereas the third place was secured by Daddy Nose Best.
Originally, held over 1 1/16 miles, the race was held at 1 1/8 miles because of the consistency of the track. The early lead of the race was taken by Csaba, who is currently under the training of Philip A. Gleaves.
With jockey Julien Leparoux on his back, he carved fractions and completed the first quarter mile in 23.63 seconds. He completed half-mile in 48.08 seconds, while he was being pursued by Skyring. Quick Wit sat in third place behind the two leaders,
with Rajiv Maragh on his back.
The son of Sharp Humor made his winning move on the turn, when he was in contention with Csaba and worked hard enough to prevail. He completed the race in an efficient time of 1 minute and 51.95 seconds.
The winning rider commented on the race strategy and told the press that:
"It seemed like the track was really favoring the speed horses, so we didn't want to have too much work to do." The rider also stated: "He was just always there for me and put me where I needed to be and finished up strong."
This race really showed what the runner is made of, and it was good recovery for him since he finished in the fifth spot in the Grade 2 American Derby at Arlington Park on 14th July, 2012.
Overall, the sophomore has a record of 3-2-1 in 10 starts with earnings worth $22,376. Trainer Dale Romans told the press the runner can perform better on turf compared to the dirt surface as he said:
"It was just a matter of if he'd move on up. If it comes off (the turf) obviously we'll stay in from now on, we know he can do it.”
He also said:
"But I think he's better on turf."
