Quick Wit posts a victory through his second start of the season in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Handicap on 26th January
Succeeding in his second start of the year, the five-year-old, Quick Wit won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Handicap on 26th January at the Meydan against the 5 to 2 favourite, Fallen Idol, entered by Saeed bin Suroor.
Saeed bin Suroor remarked: “Both Quick Wit and African Story won well. The trip suited Quick Wit. We will keep the options open for both of them. The horses are continuing in good form which is pleasing”.
The field of twelve that was raced for a mile and two furlongs was initially led by Moran Gra, entered by Ms Joanna Morgan, who could keep the charge of the track for the opening 1 ½ furlongs. Right after the mid division, Moran Gra’s lead had to be
compromised with the speed with which Al Shemali, Fallen Idol and Quick Wit were drilling in for the final furlongs.
After tracking the leaders, Quick Wit set himself aside by riding over the competition for taking command of the 1 ½ furlongs, and ran on well for home with Silvestre De Sousa riding, leaving Fallen Idol behind by 2 ½ lengths.
Fallen Idol did fight for his chances through 1 ½ furlong, but could not notch up to the pace with which Quick Wit concluded the race. Fallen Idol finished second with Frankie Dettori, and was soon followed by Al Raihe trained, Al Shemali, who was
left behind by a margin of a shoulder.
Coming back from Godolphin Racing to Al Raihe did not bring around any monumental change for Al Shemali, as far as the ranking is concerned, but the horse did sustain the third place finish rather than dropping lower than that.
The race proved to be the first win for Quick Wit out of the two starts of the new season, and a lucrative race for Saeed bin Suroor with one entry winning, and the other qualifying as the runner up. Mahmood Al Zarooni’s entry, Rostrum, finished sixth
in the race.
It was an important achievement for Quick Wit, because it was the first time he won after winning on 28th October, 2010, and staying winless during his two races in the 2011 season.
Finishing the race in 2 minutes and 4.89 seconds, Quick Wit gave Godolphin its third victory through the fixture and eleventh win of the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival.
