The second session of the 2nd day belongs to England as they grabbed four wickets by tea at Woolloongabba, Brisbane in the first Test of the 2010 Ashes. Seam bowlers brought England back into the match as they troubled
the Australian batting line-up at a wobbling score of 168 for 5.
James Anderson and Steven Finn led the English fight-back as they bowled with a nagging line and length to entice the batsmen into a false shot-play. There probing spells earned them healthy dividends as the duo grabbed 3 wickets.
James Anderson was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he provided them with their 2nd breakthrough of the innings. In between, the right-arm bowler swung the red cherry with precision and control.
Anderson brought about the demise of Ponting straight after lunch. The delivery landed on the leg-stump and moved into the batsman. It was a perfect delivery to glance, but the Tasmanian only managed a thin inside edge through
to the wicket keeper, where Matt Prior caught a plum catch.
Finn took a cracking caught and bowled to dismiss a well set Katich. It was a length delivery on around the middle stump; Katich in order to drive the ball scooped a return catch towards Finn, where the lanky fast bowler took a
cracking return catch.
Moreover, Finn troubled Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 with his pace and an extra bit of bounce. As a result, the right-arm bowler dragged him into an ugly looking pull shot. The Australian looped it straight into the hands of the wicket keeper,
who hung on to it quite nicely.
Graeme Swann scalped his first wicket by dismissing an out of form Marcus North. Swann got rid of North with a beautiful off spinning delivery. It was a touch slower and spun enough to take the outside edge of North’s bat. Collingwood
held onto the catch at slip.
Ricky Ponting was the first player to be dismissed in the 2nd session. The Australian Captain didn’t manage to add a single run to his tally before lunch.
Soon after, Simon Katich followed his Captain to give young Finn his first Ashes wicket. However, the left hander collected four runs to register a resilient half-century.
Michael Hussey was the only batsmen to make an impact in the second session as he gathered 46 runs in his defiant innings. Hussey along with Brad Haddin (9) coasted http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to tea.
Michael Clarke looked completely out of sorts for his conservative innings of 9 runs off 50 balls. The middle order batsmen had no clue about the English bowling. Clarke fell to Finn by playing a poor shot in order to break the
shackles.
Marcus North brought Graeme Swann to the party. North had no idea about, what Swann was posing against him with his tweaking off-spinners. North carried his poor show straight into the series as he only scored 1 runs off 8 agonizing
deliveries.
