  1. In addition to physical conditioning, you'd need a good coach/teacher. Boxing like any sport or martial art requires a lot of learning.

But assuming you had a good teacher AND worked out with intensity every time AND had no injuries AND actually could learn AND didn't freak out in sparing...you could be ready to do some entry-level amateur fighting in 2 years. From there you work your way up depending on how well you do.

Mike Tyson started training at age 13...and even he didn't turn pro until age 19. Most people don't have any of Mike's raw talent...so please know that is a long process. However, if you stick with it, you will be able to fight at the amatuer level.

Your other question is about losing weight. If you work out with intensity AND control your eating, you will lose weight VERY fast. Boxing and martial art train burn calories at a high rate.

I dunno if you can work out 5 days a week/2 hours per day right off the bat...you may have to work up to that. The smartest thing you can do is to LISTEN to your instructors.

  2. at 5 7 and 205, the obvious answer is you have a lot of fat that you will lose, and relatively quickly... it will come off more slowly at first, but if you keep with it you will lose a lot of weight.

You can do a lot of training and most of your conditioning outside the boxing gym.  You can shadow box anywhere, you can run and so on.

You could be ready for an amatuer fight in 6 months.

  3. depends on your age and body fat %. I would say cut back on your carb intake and have proper training before doing anything competively. If you can lose or trim about 15 pounds off see how you will at that weight. if you feel sluggish and drained after a couple of rounds lose 10-12 more pounds until you are able to go at least 3 rounds decently.
