Quick circle casting.?

Is this acceptable?:

Place candles around in a circle, stand in the circle and say "NORTH EAST SOUTH WEST, EARTH AIR FIRE WATER, ELEMENTS GATHER AND HELP ME TO CREATE A CIRCLE OF PROTECTION, BRING YOUR POWERS. BLESSED BE! THE CIRCLE IS CAST."

Is it ok if I imagine the elements and not use representations? Just candles for the border of the circle?

  1. It's not that you imagine them there.  You visualize them.  What you've said is fine, like Crystal said don't forget to thank them after the ritual.

Um, I hope you aren't serious about Charmed.  It was fiction.  Fiction.

  2. Um - the reference to how the sisters on "Charmed" cast a circle doesn't help if you are looking for people to take you seriously.

I would also say you need to learn more about the "why" you are casting a circle, and then the "how" will be easier for you.

The tools, candles or representations of the elements, are just that, tools to help you focus on those elements/energies.  You can use whatever words you like, but as answer #1 suggested, I would be a little more polite and ask of the elements to witness/aid in your ritual, not demand.  And remember to thank and release them at the end.

  3. In my practice, the elements are with me. I don't always make a big deal about calling on them or anything.

Most times when I cast a circle, I have a tealight for each of the four directions and I walk around the circle clockwise with incense on the outside of the circle and then I step in and do the same thing.

For some reason, I tend to do everything in silence. I don't often speak when I am in the circle or casting it.

Anyways, I feel like the directions are already aligned with the elements and so the elements are there naturally.

IMO, you can make things as simplistic or as extensive as you like, basically, take note of how you feel. If you feel connected and you can feel your circle then it is good. :)

    *edit*

I purposely ignored the reference to Charmed. :)

  4. I don't understand why you couldn't use representations.Candle for fire, bowl of water for water, a mineral/stone for earth and as you said in your previous question a feather or incense for air.If the spell/ritual you are doing requires a specific incense, candle color, stone then change those on your border.

Its your circle, you can call about the corners that way,b ut you should be more polite while doing so.I would incorporate the representations for the elements within your call or the watchtowers as well. That was the way I was taught.

EDIT-Your using Charmed as your basis?Wait hold up a second-Charmed?Charmed is definitely not a source of any valid information for any part of witchcraft or Wicca.Try reading some books first. Some authors to look into Gerald Gardner(re-discoverer and father of modern Wicca), Raymond Buckland, Scott Cunningham, Christopher Penzack.

  5. ever since i could remember (really because i have never replaced anything on my altar) i have have use representations, but in no way is it a need, they are aids to help call forth their aid.

Why are you casting a circle BTW?

oh and Charmed is far from an accurate representation of wicca, and though i am a Druid, wicca and druidism is very similar in its nature. Please dont dabble in magick if the only reason you are doing so is because you watched charmed.
