  1. In many states in the U.S. persons AFTER serving their sentances for felonies are denied the right to vote.  Voting is a constitutional right in the U.S. Yet people who have already served their sentances e.g. paid back society for thier wrong are disinfranchised.  This is opression in violation of the U.S. constitution.  This is the law in Pennsylvania and other states (the law has been changed in Florida permiting them to vote).

If you are in the U.S. armed forces, you can be subjected to involuntary (and without your knowledge) testing of narcotic drugs.  The U.S. Supreme Court upheld this denying a law suit for experiments with LSD without the knowledge or consent of the service men.  People enlisted are property of the U.S. government.

In Pennsylvania, even after a crime has been expunged from a persons record (meaning the crime never happened, and under oath the person may honestly say they were never even charged with a crime), the criminal docket entry for adult probation exists on the civil docket.  That means that despite a court order to expunge the criminal record the person still has a criminal record entry in the civil docket that will be seen whenever they apply for a job or when a credit check occurs.  The law acts to prejuidce the person by making know a criminal act that has been found never to occurred.

  2. African Americans were probably the best example of oppression, in that they were denied equal education, employment, education, housing, and a political voice. No other  group has been oppressed to that extreme, rather, religious, g*y, female, etc, none were denied access to the same drinking water, as others.

Another example of oppression, was the working class. Working conditions in the 1900's were very oppressive. Long hours, little pay, no overtime, no benefits, no child labor laws, very much like sweat shops, in 3rd world countries today.

  3. Racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism, disability discrimination, poverty - all of these are sources of oppression.

Pick the one you feel strongly about and research it a bit.

A very modern form of oppression is anti-Muslim racism (Islamophobia). Look up Guantanamo Bay etc.
