Question:

Quick! lol teaspoon or bottle stopper for bottle of champagne?

ok, need to keep a bottle of champagne fresh.. i put a bottle stopper (regular wine bottle with rubber seal & metal handle) in it but everyone says use a teaspoon at the top.. but doesnt leaving a teaspoon in the top leave it open to air so it oxidises in the fridge? (obviously can not seal it air tight if there is a teaspoon (or tablespoon ) sticking out of top of bottle.. ) so WHICH IS BETTER?

i went from bottle stopper to table spoon... what do i do? its in the fridge with a spoon sticking from top.. how long will it last with either tablespoon or bottle stopper in it?

why does teaspoon (or table spoon) theoreically work if it is open to oxidation? or does the metal teaspoon suck up oxidation (shouldnt really if its stainless steel??) thanks

  1. I actually think the teaspoon works really well, but I've never used a bottle stopper so I've nothing to compare with. I don't know why it works, it's an old household trick.

  2. Bottle stopper, no spoon...that's ridiculous!

  3. I think the spoon needs to be sterling silver

  4. Don't know, never had enough left to put back in fridge after opening before!!!

  5. Use a cork. You can read the article below about the spoon option.

  6. Bottle stopper. The bubbles will go right past the spoon

  7. No spoon - mythbusters (on discover) tested this.  Spoon is actually worse than leaving it uncapped and refridgerated

  8. There is no way to keep it perfectly fresh. You should drink it while it's still cold.
