Quick ohm question just need answers thanks alot?

i have 2 12 w1 JL audio single coil 8 ohms each sub is wired directly to the amp but the subs are bridged to the amp is that cool so does this make the subs now 4 ohms i get confused when it comes to that i can hook the stuff up but this gets me thanks alot

the amp is a rockford fosegate 550.2 punch

  1. plus-red to red  and minus-black to black on two 8 ohm speakers  then take red and black to the amp. that equals 4 ohms of coil to the amp.


  2. Well if your subs are wired together in parallel then yes they would be at 4 ohms. What i would do with that amp and subs would be to wire the subs in parallel (easy to do, search it online) and then bridge your amp and use the bridges ports to power the subs. Right now your subs are getting about 75 watts of power being run at 8 ohms x 2 subs because that amp is rated at 150 watts of power at 4 ohms so at 8 ohms it would be about half of that wattage.

    Hope this helps a little. (sorry its slightly confusing)

  3. if the subs are wired in parallel , then it will be 4 ohms.if they are wired in series then it would be higher than 8 ohms , about 16 ohms.The best way to go is make sure your sub is wired parallel and bridged to the amp.
