ive been seeing a lot of photos lately with a special type of photo editing...

lets say.. its a colorful picture to begin with, but you change it so that only one thing is colored and the rest is black and white.. like a red shirt and the rest b&w...

is this on apple computers or something?

how is this done?

i do have a few photo editors but apparently not one with this =]

thanks everyone

  1. Yes this feature is available on any computer with many different photo editing programs. Essentially the effect is created by applying a "Hue/Saturation" or "Desaturate" effect to the image, and "masking" or "erasing" that effect in a particular area. The best program to do this on would be Adobe photoshop or gimpshop if you are looking for a freeware application. Their may be simple photo editing programs that are capable of creating this effect, however none of them would give the degree of control that an image editing program like photoshop or gimp would.

  2. It's called Selective Color or Colorizing.

You can do it with several image editing programs. (It has nothing to do with the brand of computer you're using.)

Here's my step-by-step tutorial on how to do it in Photoshop.
