Question:

Quick questions about a Carnival cruise?

by Guest66542 | earlier

So this Monday we're leaving for a Carnival cruise to the Bahamas. The ship is Imagination.

Questions:

1.) How is Carnival's Imagination?

2.) When you eat food in the bistro does it cost money or is it free?

3.) If you want to go to the Salon or spa does it cost money?

4.) We're not sure how much money we should take because we didn't know how much things cost and stuff. So how much would you suggest taking for a 5 person family?

5.) I am a girl and I don't know what to wear for the formal night. Any suggestions.

Thanks! <3

  1. 1: Imagination is a great ship:

You can actually get a video of the vessel at carnival cruises and their site funnship island I believe

3: the salon and the spa

usually have a special on third day of the cruise that equates to about a 30% discount per service and coupons are offered to lower a full service treatment

    4. How Much $$$

math for drinks is about 10 ten for hard stuff

    beer is about 7 seven

    leave a tip 15 to 20%

better to sometimes just buy the server one.

Take lots of ones easy to leave cash

remember if you tip 20% plus they will rember to get to you first at the bar, that is if you work with one server per bar all the time.

Tip the crew looking after your berth

    Tip the dinner seving team

    Tip to maitre'd

    Envelops are at pursers office

The age of the children is a factor but here goes:

if they attend the Camp Carnival/Kids Club [younger and little people]

The kids will find a lot of people with in their age barcket to hang with

Everything they could hope to eat in the way of "junk/casual food" is included fries burgers pizza and all the non alcoholic beverages they could hope to explode on

    The challenge is teens

the want to spend time at the video games and will be wanting to stay with the kids they meet as much as possible

Off the ship: explore in advance the excursions they are listed and funshipisland goes into detail as to what you can expect.

The cruise page for carnival details a cost range per person you can expect per excursion

souvineers can eat up any cash or pile up on your card.

    cruise

Bring your visa or you will have to leave 400 to 500 per adult person in your berth.

You can expect to spend between 50 to 100 per day without doing too much and no excursions

A family of five with with a couple of modest excursions 2000

    two thousand

    5. Formal Night

That little black dress [or solid colour] works awesome

    Upscale Club wear is cool

glitter tops are in right now at Navy and Gap couple that with a

plain skort , skirt or slacks then BOGO for gr8 foot wear. the shoe makes it happen

You may even find something onshore

    Gents:

something more than golf shirt and dockers or shorts and no runners or beach shoes

-Dress slacks and dress shirt is okay

-going black tie although very nice is not necessay

-a nice plain suit no pattern is great

the upside is no weight restrictions on the ship

I know of people that sent Fedex ground to the hotel they stayed at the night before at the port because the reservation was held with their card and took the clothes on board and then shipped them home beore they boarded the plane

Make sure you let the hotel you are expecting the package just incase it gets there ahead of your flight

If you need to press anything do it in advance! AVOID THE ZOO AND PANIC TO GET IRONING DONE

  2. 1. I looooove the Imagination. Just renovated. Nice photos here:

    2. All restaurants on Imagination are free of charge. (Bar drinks and Starbucks type stuff are extra, but the restaurants are all included.

    3. Yup, it's extra. Otherwise everyone would be in there all the time, and you'd never get an appointment. =) You can browse the spa price lists here:

    http://www.cruisesavvy.com/gallery

Just scroll down to the "browse" section, select "Carnival" and "Price lists" then "Spa" and hit "submit"

    4. The only automatic cost is $10 per person per day for gratuities. Everything else depends on the family. Do people drink? Do you want to do shore excursions? Gamble? Shop? Like in #3 you can check out the bar prices, shore excursions, etc.

    5. They're pretty relaxed about that. A cotton sun dress would be a bit informal but they wouldn't kick you out. A prom dress would be a bit formal -- but I'd bet money at least a couple of guys will be in a tux. I recommend seeing what the guys in your family are willing to wear (jacket? suit? or just khakis?) and matching accordingly.

If this is your first cruise you might also want to check out the "Introduction to Cruises" and "Know before You Go" guides. They cover stuff like what to pack, what a typical day is like, etc. They're here:

    Have a great trip!

ADDED: FYI on tipping - it used to be that Carnival had you tip people with cash in envelopes. You can still do that if you want, but they instituted the $10/person in part because the old way was a pain in the neck. Now the only "envelope" person is the Maitre d'. Similarly, drinks are now all automatically +15% service charge. There's no line to write in anything different.

  3. 1. Haven't been on that one but Carnival ships are pretty nice is general

    2. all food is free

    3. salon cost lots of money-but sometimes near the end they have some sort of sale

    4. I went to the Bahamas and found nothing to spend money on...I had like a couple hundred bucks and didn't spend a dime of it at the ports-however, it is easy to spend money on board (soda and all the "good" drinks cost money, gift shop, activicties..etc.)

    5. A nice dress is most common, lots of girls were wearing a pretty black dress (including myself)

    have fun!
