this guy is mowing my neighbours garden and i asked him how much it would cost to do my front garden (it hasnt been cut since may so has a rather wild look about it- jungle/meadow about 2 foot long with crazy flowers growing in it)

i had a patch done (before lawn mower broke) which i was rather disappointed with as it was made crew cut and was brown & dry underneath the green lush jungle/meadow, so i thought i wouldnt have it done again and leave it meadow like.. however, next doors gardener is over so i asked how much it would be to have it done. he said £20 ($40) the patch of grass is small and only the size of a mini bus or van... should i have it done (he said he would be over when he was done with neighbour) or should i just leave the long (its as long as it will grow now & is sheltered from the street by bushes so no one can really see it & the neighbours/council dont mind?) otherwise friend said they could have a go for free (when i get new blades 4 my mower) what do i do guys?

  1. Offer him £15

  2. I wouldn't pay £20... offer ten and take £15 if he offers that.

  3. trip to pub will be more than £20. I know it, you know it. Go to pub with mates but leave grass as meadow, your mates will buy rounds. you all get pi**ed. the garden? who cares.

  4. Haggle him down to £10 then let him do it for you.

  5. just pay him then keep on top of it , or try and bargin him down

  6. That's not a bad price, you will find if you have him say every 2 weeks it will come down in price, and save you the hassle and always have a nice lawn.

  7. I just checked my local humane society and as luck would have they have just received 37 goats and two sheep. Since I have adopted both my dogs from them, they cut me a great deal. FREE! So if you will send me your mailing address, I'll get them right off to you. All you have to do is pay shipping. This will save you the $40.00 and you won't have to have your lawnmower blades sharpened. When you tire of the animals you can sell them to the butcher. And goats milk is the "in" thing here in the States. And goat cheese. Sheep's wool should fetch some money also.I'm doing this to cement relations between our two great countries, so you don't have to thank me. I've checked with FEDEX and the charges will only be around 3,000 lbs.( Approx. $6,000) and they will need cash on delivery. Enjoy.

  8. I guess you've had it done (or not) by now but I would have had it done and made a vow to myself to keep on top of it from then on.

Unless you knew you was getting the blades shortly and could rely on your friend to come good . Then let the grass grow a little longer and treat your friend & yourself to a night out on the money saved after the good deed is done.

  9. £20! you can buy a lawnmower for that!

  10. save money get your mower repaired and your friend to do the  job for you. Cut your lawn each week ,it should only take about 15min if it is about the size of a mini bus. I would use a trimmer first before mowing, do not expect the mower to cut grass that is 2 feet long Regarding the next doors gardener try offering £10 first or max £15 and request he takes the rubbish, It will not take him long if he has the right tools when the lawn is eventually cut keep on top of it. retired  gardener

  11. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

    1. have it done now for £20 ($40) & see if i want it done again.

    sounds reasonable to me.....seriously

my reasons - you said it is kinda jungle like

    - his equipment

    - only 40 bucks

    - you dont have to sweat

    - how big is your yard for 40 bucks

    - if not so big i say 30 bucks

  12. Why can't you do it?  Spend £5 on blades and then £15 on cool drinks and cakes to celebrate...and you can still do it next time (free) 'cos you've now got the equipment.

  13. i know this isnt an option butt..

get half of it mowed for a tenner

and then take the 10 quid to the pub :)

  14. just pay the 20 pound
