  1. If they are similar beads and arranged in a linear fashion, you could simply string the beads then couch the string onto the cushion, either by machine or hand.

  2. You can thread several of the beads on the needle and do them or you can do them one by one. Cannot do these things with a machine!! So sorry!

  3. You should probably define better just what you mean by "an Indian cushion project" or at least give a link to a photo of a similar item.

If they want you to sew the beads on by hand or by machine, that's what you'll need to do (though there are ways to sew them on so you don't have to sew each one separately if that's what you're doing).  You can also use "fabric glue" though to be able to place them much more quickly, then let dry.  Depending on the size of the bead and the amount of "glue" you use, they will stay on even through the wash.

If you're interested in that, go to a fabric or craft store and ask for fabric glue like Jewel It or Beacon's Gem Tac, for example, then use those.

    TIPS:

It may help to place the beads with a pair of tweezers.

When I need to see something really small, I use a pair of "reading glasses" from the drugstore (the higher the number on them, the greater the magnification).  Sometimes I'll even wear 2 pairs of reading glasses at one time to do really close-up things!

Depending on the pattern of beads you're sewing on, you can string a bunch of them on thread, place them in a spiral or line or other shape, then just "couch" them down by sewing over the thread showing between each bead.

  4. Try using one of those magnifying lights, Its a great big magnifying glass with a light on it. They make small stuff easy to do. Ask your instructor if they have one available or if he/she can get one for the school.
