Quickest Way To Machu Picchu?

Question

I'm trying to do something completely crazy, and see MP in the course of half a day. If I take a flight from Lima to Cuzco that lands at 7am, is there ANY way to see MP (even if just for a few minutes) and then be back in Cuzco in time for a 3pm flight? So far all I've been able to find is the train that will take me up, but doesn't arrive back in Cuzco until late evening.

I don't think you can do that, go take your time and enjoy everything there, Meet the people, they are wonderful.

i went on a trip with my school once with global explorers, and part of the trip was to go to machu picchu......my guess would be to contact them. they were an amazing group to go with-i still remember the trip to this day. my dad went, too, and even he enjoyed it!

No way!!! You need to sleep in Aguas Calientes (closest town to MP) or Cuzco, then go to MP and then you can go back to Cuzco. However, Cuzco's airport shuts down at dawn as it is dangerous to fly there at night. Why rush the whole experience? Go there, enjoy Cuzco and all its wonders (MP is not the only thing to see there!) and then calmly enjoy MP. Remember that Cuzco is a high altitude city so your body needs to adjust to that or else you would end up in hospital!!

Sorry but the train will take you to the town of Machu Piccu and then you need  a couple of hours for the bus that actually takes you up the mountain to the beginning of the Machu Piccu site.  I do not see how you can possibly do this. even if you never stop to look at the site.

There is no street (yet) to MP. So only option, to get there quick, is the train, which is expensive, Leaves from Cusco in the morning, arrives there back again in the evening Going to MP takes at least a day. Quite a few people stay the night at Agua Caliente. At Agua Caliente you have to take the bus (no other way, unless you walk. Expensive too US12,00 -because you are a foreigner). Staying at AC expensive too.
