Question:

Quiet Honeymoon in Mexico?

So we are getting married in June. We are looking for a place in Mexico that is a little off the beaten path, we dont want to be at those 900+ room hotels , more of a villa type atmosphere, must be beach front, and it would be cool to be in an area with scenery, like mountains (we like hiking). Does anyone know about a place that this describes and do you have any links? Thanks.

  1. I've been to Mexico over a 100 times and love it there. You might try searching around Loreto or Mulege in Southern Baja California. You could fly into La Paz (the capitol) and rent an inexpensive Beetle Convertible and drive north to those cities. Actually, I think Loreto has some direct flights now, also.  Or you could drive south to Todas Santos and stay at The Hotel California, for example.  Great little town, quiet, picturesque and mountains nearby.  We always took our rented bug down to the beaches a few miles south of there where you can look up and down the beach for miles and not see another soul!  Very lovely and relaxing.  Don't go swimming on Pacific Coast side though as undertow is surprisingly treacherous. Some tourists have drowned there!! Mulege, Loreto and La Paz are on the Sea of Cortez (SOC)side and much more swimmer friendly.

Might check out San Jose del Cabo which is nearest to the airport that everyone goes to reach Cabo San Lucas. San Jose is much more laid back and quiet compared to the loud, expensive party town like Cabo.

I remember a small resort on the SOC side off the highway that runs along that coast and through the mountains. Very secluded, reasonably priced. Owned by American doctor. Believe it was named after some animal but can't remember for sure. Right on the beach with bungalows, pool, bar, small cafe, etc.  You can see the sign as you drive the highway.

On the mainland, check out Sayulita and Bucerias. These places are within easy driving distance from the touristy Puerto Vallarta. Quiet, laid back, off beaten path, beaches, etc.  Book early where ever you plan to go as there are lots of visitors from Mexico, Canada, U.S., Europe who take over these places every season. We've been to Five Star Resorts and little highway motels all over Mexico ( we drive down to PV and Manzanillo). Hope this helps some. A good search on these towns listed should get you some more info.

  2. theres a place near cuernavaca called Tepoztlan.(near like 3 hours form mexico city) i has no beach sorry but i went there and its full of small but 5star hotels with lots of spas and all those things it has a great view its a small town surrounded by mountains and hills.

this one has a beach- its called nautla (in veracruz) theres no airport in the town cause there is like 1000 people living in that town but it has this great  hotel in front of a private beach (theres almost no difference cause theres too manypeople so almost all the beach is private) theres some pyramids like 50 kms away so you could go have an expedition and theres also a place where you can go kayaking and all those hiking things. and its full of cultural things like "los voladors de tlanepantla" if youve ever heard of them theyre really famous.

these webpages are in spanish. but ive beento this hotels antd they are great the food is delicious over there (the second one has a phone numer if youre interested

if youre not convinced then you can go to cancun, everyone loves cancun

  3. Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta, its a beach and there r mountains....i prefer the beaches of the riviera maya and if u want a quiet place i suggest Akumal.

  4. Try Sayulita  just 30 mins north of Puerto Valarta airport .

It is a small village with many beaches around that you can walk to and be almost alone, perfect for a honeymoon , we stayed at Casa Roberto but there is many Villas for rent all around.

    Have a nice trip

  5. Zihuatenejo is beautiful and a little more quiet (it's known as a fishing village) - at least it was several years ago. It's near Ixtapa on the Pacific.
