Hello we go to Fuengirola Costa del Sol tomorrow, we are interested in a relaxing holiday with small children but still want to explore a bit. I'm a bit worried about all the bars/nighlife etc and want to avoid it as much as possible, are there any quiet beaches within an hours drive? And what areas should we avoid with a young family. Do you know of any well priced cafes etc to eat in. Many thanks is advance

  1. Fuengirola has some nice beaches, and this time of year they are not crowded. Restaurants in Fuengirola are quite varied. Those on the beach are generally good quality (try the ones that seem crowded. they usually have the best food!) If you like oriental food try the WOK  restaurant, (you can see it from the main road) just off the turnoff to Myramar Center (Shopping Center). Inside the shopping center you also have some fun places to eat like the 100 Montaditos where they have nothing but small sandwiches made of buns with a hundred different fillings...fun to try. There is a great donut shop across from it.

Avoid the area just west of Cabopino (in Marbella), there is a g*y and a nudist beach in that area.

The best beach in the whole area is in Marbella, about a half hours drive from Fuengirola.

The area is between the Hotel Don Carlos and the Hotel Marbella Playa. The beach is excellent, the water not deep for a good way out, which is good for children. We usually drive to the El Rosario turn off, and crossover to return towards the area we want. You can head towards the beach at the Marbella Playa exit, and take a right turn right just before the Opencor.

Or go to the next turn off (at the tourist association building) which looks almost like a mosque with a tower, again turn right towards the beach.(I take this exit)  I usually take a second right just behind the tourist building and then turn left at the end of the street. This will take you down to a double parking area, and there is a nice "Chiringuito" restaurant called "Las Olas" good spanish food and not too expensive. We have had several meals there.

There is also a red cross station, though it might not be manned yet, it's a bit early in the year.

Unfortunately right now the water in the sea won't be very  warm! But the beach will be fun for the children.

I hope your hotel has a heated pool!...

There are some nice restaurants in Sitio de Calahonda (where we live). They are in the "El Zoco" shopping center on the second level. And if you like swiss food..there are great fondues and other dishes in the "Bistrot Suisse" which is further up on the main street of Calahonda.

The weather has been nice, but there have been a few days of rain recently.

    Hope you enjoy your holiday.

  2. you will find Fuengirola quiet at the moment unless on the area known as fish ally where all the restaurants are, the beaches are pretty quiet and the nightlife hasn't really started yet

if you want you can head towards Marbella, about 20 mins there are a few very quiet beaches there ie Cala de Mijas Cabopino or my local beach Marbessa which is the one after, or head the other way towards Malaga and there is Benalmadena that again is a cool beach,

the forcast is by the way SUNNY WITH A LITTLE CLOUD

  3. Its very quiet at this time of the year so enjoy , eat where the spanish eat and you wont go wrong,Have a lovely holiday
