Question:

Quiet but warm surf spot to live in Australia with jobs and music?

I'm trying to decide where to go and live for a year in Oz, look for work and surf as much as possible. Am tempted by the more Northern East coast to avoid as much cold weather as possible, but I'm worried that every single break will be super crowded and it'll be too much of a party town. Would possibly consider somewhere colder, maybe on the west if I thought it was right for me.

I'm an average surfer so don;t want anything too big or reef-y or anything. 3-6ft beach break is fine for starters. Also want somewhere quiet and friendly but not so quiet I can't find a job. Also would like somewhere with a good live music scene so I can join a band.

Lots of things to consider, that's why I can't make a decision..Help me please!

  1. The problem with answering this question is that most people in Australia live near the coast and surfing is a favourite passtime for many of the inhabitants. Then with most of the work available in the cities there is a high concentration of surfers in and around most of the breaks near these cities.

however as Australia is in a bit of a boom at the moment there is a lot of work to be had in more regional areas. One question for you though is what type of work will you be looking for?

However to give this a general answer I would try up aound Kalbarri, Geraldton area as this is a growing area. There are many surf spots and as it doesn't have any large cities it may be what your looking for. As for surf have a look at this link:-

    I hope that this helps

  2. Assuming your not from the east coast. You would be better off upper east coast. where ever there is good surf. You will be in a crowd. I am sorry to say regardless in you ability every body Is looking for the surf that you are. These are super good wave at 5/6 feet.Unless you would be a big wave surfer

  3. If you like surfing maybe you should move to the west, and then I here that there are live bands in the west.
