  1. if you have the blocks already cut out and have a size in mind, you can do the pattern called a trip around the world , which is one awesome looking quilt when it is completed, check out www.quilterscache.com for instructions at this following link

  2. My best advise here is to go to Quiltcache.com or quiltville.com.  Both of these sites will give you everything you need to know to make a beautiful quilt, even if you are or hope to be a great quilter.  These two web sites are used by 100's of quilters no matter how experienced they are.  They are wonderful sites.  I know you will enjoy them for years to come if you use them even once. Good luck to you and find a quilt group on Yahoo Groups to join.    You will never regret that either.  Good Luck, Bonijo

  3. I won't attempt to guess "why 13?".

With lots of squares of different colors and shades, I'd suggest the over-all layout like nested diamonds.  Imagine P=pale, @=neutral, D=dark  with 81 squares (9x9 layout)

  4. you could do a nine patch-or pick other number in your color sceme with a colored square in the middle, you could sew them all together-making long strips down the quilt. you can also do half sqares-depending on the size of the blocks. you can use square and strips to make log cabins, sqares within squares, check you local library for info and books on different patterns there is a book-i can't remember who wrote it but it's 101 blocks.

  5. It depends on the size of your squares. Nine patch is a good beginner pattern.

Or you could cut some of the squares into triangles and do something more elaborate.

  6. Hi:

first off the bat : you make a Master Quilt Pattern - Basically it's overall picture of what your quilt design will look like when it completed with the measurement of the block and the spaceing of it.

then you sign the make a design of one of the quilt square block. This will show you how to make the blocks

than you buy and cut the material in to blocks

you put the quilt on a very large table or quilting frame and put the backing and the beding  followed by the backing  then you sew the edges up and the middle of the quilt to hold the beding in place. then you postion the cut material in the square block and hold it down with pins. So you sew the block down After making sure it where it's so post to be on the quit   and  when you got that done you keep on repeat the process until you got it done. this will take a long time So keep on working it.

If your doing this from a book or pattern. Please refer to that . Okay.
