Question:

Quilting on embroidery machine?

I'd like to upgrade to a new sewing machine, which will be used primarily for quilting. I haven't done machine embroidery, but I'm interested in learning. Would a Brother SE370D work for both? Can you recommend a reliable machine for less than $500 that will handle both quilting and embroidery?

Thanks!

  1. Try the Bernina Aurora, it has an embroidery module that you can add, but is primarily a quilting machine.

  2. Your skill level will out run that machine quickly.  I don't think it has auto thread cutting which is a must have in my book.

I would suggest you save up your money for a higher end machine.  I got a high end machine used for 500.  I really like my baby-lock ellure machine.  It does 5x7 embroidery and I use it for assembling quilt tops and making purses.  I have a brother pq1500s for quilting on a quilt frame.  It has a 9 inch neck and works well for push through quilting.  I use a "big foot" free motion foot for frame work and also sit and quilt work.

Get a machine that is greater than your ability to use, then you won't grow out of it as fast.

A new ellure on sale is 1500 dollars.  I got mine used for 500.  It is a good little machine.

Find a reputable dealer who also does repairs.  That way if anything goes wrong, you won't be stuck looking for a repair shop.

I will but another baby-lock machine when time.  I would like to have the ellure plus  It will connect to the computer with a usb cable and also quilts beautifully.

    Happy shopping..
