Quincy University men’s volleyball team defeats Ball State on Saturday
Quincy University men’s volleyball team is becoming one of the better teams in the nation.
Consistently, they have been trying to improve their performance and increasingly giving their opponents a tough time to make a win.
The Hawks were recently in a match with the Ball State University and what ensued was a game that did not fail to thrill the audience. The match between the two was able to reach four exciting sets with the Hawks emerging as victors in the end.
As Ball State was moving out of the court cradling their disappointment and the Hawks were soaring high on an adrenaline rush from their win, the scoreboard displayed the following final set scores, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 26-24.
There were many reasons for the Hawks to be jubilant on Saturday. First of all, they were able to bag a win after defeating a third ranked volleyball team i.e. a team that is higher in rankings than themselves. The Hawks are placed in the sixth position.
Other than that, Saturday’s win was the first time that the Hawks were able to get themselves a victory in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament match.
In the first set of the match, the Hawks were unable to get into form. Ball State took advantage of the fact and was relentless on the attack. Not only was the offensive of Ball State formidable in the opening game, their defence was also doing well and
giving the Hawks a hard time to let any points through.
As a result, it was fairly easy for Ball State to gain dominance in the opening set of the game and keep it with them until the end. Ball State was able to end the set quite comfortably at 25-17.
The Hawks did not let the loss of the first set by a considerable margin affect their play in the second set of the match. Once they got into form, the Hawks did not fail to give Ball State a hard time. The Hawks came out strong and put up quite a challenge
for their opponents. They were able to register a hitting percentage of .357. In doing so, the only errors that the Hawks made were four. Consequently, the Hawks were able to bag the second set of the game at 25-21.
Once the Hawks got their momentum going, they were able to come out strong in the third set as well. Ball State failed to grab the advantage by securing the set as the Hawks bagged it for themselves at 25-20.
With the pressure at its peak on Ball State in the fourth set, they stepped up their game and fought hard to take the match to a fifth. However, it was the Hawks that prevailed in the end with a 26-24 win.
Quincy has now been able to move on to the semis of the MIVA with a match scheduled on Wednesday.
