Quinn Carrozza clinches Women’s 200m backstroke gold – Speedo Junior National Championships
Quinn Carrozza of Nitro Swimming clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on second day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 14.
The 15-year-old Carrozza met expectations of her supporters as she dictated terms to her opponents in the distant backstroke discipline and made her way to the finishing wall for the title.
She stayed in a considerable lead over her opponents throughout the discipline and tapped the finishing wall for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.92 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Alexandra Malazdrewicz of Una Ever-CO, who remained 1.25 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 13.17 seconds.
Malazdrewicz was followed by Kathryn Rowe of Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club, who remained nearly full body length behind and occupied third position of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 14.00 seconds.
Rowe was trailed by Courtney Mykkanen of Irvine Novaquatics, who stayed 0.57 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 14.57 seconds.
Mykkanen remained half body length slower from her subsequent swimmer, Kacey Oberlander of York YMCA-MA, who proved her eligibility for fifth fastest spot of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 15.13 seconds.
Sixth fastest qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Bridgette Alexander of J-Hawk Aquatic Club, who remained 0.04 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.17 seconds.
Alexander was traced by Allie Szekely of Central Bucks Swim Team, who remained one second apart and tapped the wall for seventh position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 16.17 seconds.
Szekely was chased by Margaret D’Innocenzo of Crimson Aquatics, who remained considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 22.40 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Carrozza was overjoyed with her notable accomplishment and stressed her desire of achieving the same at senior level of swimming.
