  1. I was surprised by the first fight. If you want to read about this fight head on over to http://www.fightjunkie.com/predictions they have a write-up on the fight and also a forum where you can go and chat about this and many other fight related stuff.

  2. williams UD

  3. I think Williams turning the trick is more possible than a repeat performance from Quintana.

Either way I'll be tuning in to see what happens. Was it a fluke or does Quintana really have Williams' number?

  4. Quintana! Usually guys who jump straight into the rematch end up loosing the the second fight too... Mosley vs Forrest, Forrest vs Mayorga, De la Hoya vs Mosley (Oscar got robbed! but he still lost in the record books) , Mosley vs Wright... etc... I think it would be interesting to look at the overall stats, but I think Williams is in for a bad time! I honestly do not think he had a choice because people have been avoiding him, and if here where to go for  a tune up fight he may be in an even worse position!

  5. I think the rematch will have the same result as the first fight. Williams normally overwhelms his opponents with high volume of punches, but he didn't do that against Quintana the first time. After getting a taste of Quintana, I don't think Williams will pick up the pace in this upcoming fight either. The rematch will be a carbon copy of the last one, I think.

  6. Qunitana by KO this time

  7. I give Carlos Quintana all the credit in the world for going in there and beating Paul Williams the way he did.  He was overmatched in every category- height, reach, handspeed, etc. but he took it to Paul and counterpunched him very effectively to get a deserved win.  That being said, I'm going with Williams in the rematch, either by a unanimous decision or late-round stoppage.  I really believe that Paul overlooked Quintana in the last fight and was not completely focused for him.  I think that this time, he comes in more focused and puts his REAL combinations together (like the ones he used to beat Antonio Margarito).  Quintana is a good counterpuncher, but when you've got over 100 punches coming at you in each and every round, you cannot be nearly as effective at it.  I also think that Paul will use his great reach to his advantage this time and use his jab a lot more, which he didn't really do in the first fight that much.  He should also go to the body more in this fight because Quintana can't take body punches- that was Miguel Cotto was able to crush him.  I'm not saying that Paul can go to the body like Cotto, but I am saying that he would be better suited to go to the body much more in this fight.  I remember a part in the first fight where Paul hit Quintana with a good body shot and Quintana backed off, but Williams never followed through with it.  In the end, I just think that Williams will take it more seriously and not overlook Quintana to bigger fights and use all of his great advantages that he has in the ring, to avenge his only loss and get his title back.

Edit: well, I was right in one sense- Paul Williams defeated Carlos Quintana to avenge his only loss as well as regain his title.  However, I did not think that he would knock Quintana out in the first round.  I knew that the Williams that showed up for the first fight was not the REAL Paul that we had seen when he fought Antonio Margarito and he proved that with this fight.  The true Williams showed up tonight and my hat goes off to him- he is arguably the best welterweight in the world and I could very well see him defeating the likes of Miguel Cotto when he is focused like he was for this fight.

  8. Quintana KO catch it live on http://ltvn.net

  9. Williams biggest weakness is a limited or no amateur background. He has relied on his height and reach, because he is so d**n tall for the division.

Quintata is a smart experienced fighter with a good amateur background.

You learn allot in the amateurs and fighters without one do not usually do well against guys with one.

The way Quintana fought was to circle out of the power shot of Williams which kept Williams off balance and allowed Quintata to pop shot him when he was.

The question is not will Williams beat him, but will Williams trainer be able to teach Williams to fight a different way in such a short time. Because he doesn't have the experience of an amateur background I'm going to say he can't. Can his team come up with a game plan to counter what Quintana did the last time out.

I was super impressed with Quintana and he fought a brilliant fight that should be put in boxing books.

Ill go with Quintana again, he made it look easy the first time, It may be a bit closer but i think the result will be the same.

  10. quintana yup
