Quintin Berry’s speed impressed New York Yankees Curtis Granderson – MLB Update
Quintin Lonell Berry of the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball an extremely talented hitter. His defensive skills are what the Tigers need right now to come out of the slump this season.
Berry was Atlanta Braves’ first round pick for the 2003 Major League Baseball draft. Manager Jim Leyland sent him to the Triple A Toledo Hens after signing him on in November 2011. Berry put up masterful performances with the Hens
before getting a call to play for the Tigers.
He was added to the Tigers’ 25 man roster on May 23 and made his debut on the very same day. Opportunity arrived for Berry after outfielder Austin Jackson was placed on a 15 day disabled list.
Berry will be very pleased with the way he has hit in his first 12 big league games. Averaging .333 with 17 hits and six stolen bases, he has looked to be a promising prospect for the Tigers.
"I noticed in spring training that he made some great defensive plays in left," Curtis Granderson said. "The fact he can play left and center is a plus."
"It was very impressive to have great at-bats against a tough left-hander like CC Sabathia," said Granderson, the Yankees' centerfielder. "Then he stole some bases."
"One thing we lacked in the organization going into the off-season was speed and a guy who can play centerfield as well as Austin Jackson," said Tigers assistant general manager Al Avila.
New York Yankees’ Curtis Granderson was very impressed with what has saw from Berry in Tigers’ opening game against the Yankees on Monday, June 4. Berry had four hits during the contest and two of them came against Yankees’ ace
C.C. Sabathia.
Berry may be new to the MLB World but he has already shown glimpses of his talent. The fans will be expecting him to continue his impressive run to cement his place on Tigers’ big league roster, which will make Austin Jackson work
extremely hard to win back his position on the roster. Detroit Tigers need more agility and speed in the outfield and Berry’s role will be vital for them.
