Question:

Quit a sports team years ago, still trying to find peace?

Years ago, I quit the sports team that I was on simply because I did not enjoy it. Since then, I have had a hard time finding peace with my decision that has labeled me a "quitter" to so many, including my parents.

Can you offer any insight, thoughts, or piece of mind that might help me become more comfortable with my decision to quit. Thanks

  1. Well, we are not all trained psychologists here, but I once had a similar situation to you, but after I removed myself and my life from that sports team, I started to do better in school because it was all I had to focus on, I found new interests, and showed my family and friends a new side of myself that they never knew before I changed up my life a little.

I think it actually had a positive, very renewing effect on my life, even though at the time all my family knew about me had to do with sports. It was like I was flapping wings that I hadn't even noticed beforehand.

Reinvent yourself. Maybe you can make your family just as proud of you doing something else as you could make them with sports.

Now on the other hand, if you quit the team and then let your life tank, then there's the explanation as to why the people close to you might feel you let yourself down and you let them down. But again, reinvent yourself and be no less good at your new life than you were your past life.

Things should come around. I hope you find a way to express yourself in a new way. I hope so because I can relate to your situation pretty well. Good luck.

  2. the reason you quit...you were unhappy. you shouldn't have to do someting just because other people wont think that you are a "quitter"
