Quito De La Roque getting ready for Leopardstown’s Lexus Chase
Quito De La Roque has not made an ideal start to the season. He enjoyed great success last year, and the entire horseracing fraternity was expecting him to do the same this season. But nothing went in his favour.
On his seasonal comeback at the start of last month, the 8-year-old could only seize the third place. The bookies gave him the highest odds of 2 to 1 for the Grade 1, JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal. In the hands of Davy Russell, he failed to show
any extra pace in the final stages and as a result, could not trouble the leading pair.
His misery continued at Aintree, where he was third in a field of four, earlier this month. Over a distance of three miles and one furlong, the 13-8 favourite stayed on the same pace in the dying moments, and consequently fell third by 3¾ lengths.
Having suffered two unlucky defeats right at the start of the season, C. A. Murphy’s horse is short of confidence at the moment. Nevertheless, it is hard to question his skills. He has the potential to win big events, and just needs to unleash his best to
replicate what he did last year.
In 2011, the Robert Mongin-bred won five graded events, including a couple of Grade Ones. He is very well familiar to the big prizes, and it is just a matter of time when he gets back to the winning track.
Quito De La Roque’s next big task is Leopardstown’s Lexus Chase, scheduled to be held on Friday, December 28th. Since the Gigginstown House Stud-owned has recently faced a couple of losses, the bookies are unlikely to give him the best odds. So,
it is an ideal chance for him to redeem respect by springing up a surprise.
The bay gelding is due to face several big names in the upcoming Grade 1 event. So, he surely needs to come up with his A-game to make an impact. Quito De La Roque is preparing himself for a crack at Leopardstown. Without a doubt, he will be the main player,
if delivering his one hundred percent. Good luck to him.
