  1. I agree with Sifu frank. People at that school have invested time and energy into your training, and you at least need to have the courtisy to tell them in person.

  2. I wish you could have given us a little more information as to why you're switching dojos.

But based on what you have said, I would definitely go over there and talk to one of the instructors and let them know in person.

Also, if you've made any friends over there, I'm sure they would want to be able to tell you goodbye and wish you good luck and all that. I find it hard when people suddenly stop coming to class especially when I've assisted the instructors in teaching them. It's always nice to get the chance to talk to them one last time before they leave.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

  3. why does it matter... just go to a class and say you will be leaving. better yet, its summer and im guessing that classes ended in june but I could be wrong. Say you would like to try something else next year I did the same thing.

  4. It would depend on why you are quiting! If you have a real good reason to quit (rape, abuse, harrasment), the phone is fine. If you are moving to another town then over the phone would be considered rude.

It is rude to leave in the first place if you have no real good reason to quit.

  5. I suppose it depends on how involved you are with the dojo. If you are just a regular paying customer (especially not a high degree) then I'd say no it's not rude. If you're a high rank, or have a long relationship... it's probably gonna offend someone. It's kinda like breaking up with a girl.... only out a few times, the phone is ok. Dating and offically an item, the phone is not a good option (unless of course they're the throw stuff at you type).

  6. Yes.  Meet them in person and tell them one of the following:

    - It's not you, it's me

    - I'm just not ready for a serious commitment right now

    - Let's just be friends

Seriously, just stop going when your current month or pay period is up!  Or just tell your instructor on your last day.

  7. Absolutely it is rude to quit over the phone. It is rude to sever any relationship other than in person. You should visit the school and explain why you are leaving politely to the master of the school. Always show respect. It is not about the school you are leaving as much as it is about the person you are and are becoming.
