Quitting My Job at McDonald's?

I got a job at McDonald's a little more than a month ago, because it's summer vacation and i was really bored at home. Now school's starting again in about a week and my parents told i have to quit before it does. They told me that when i told them i wanted a job in the first the place i told them i would, but now i'm really nervous about it.I'm not sure if i should write them a resignation letter, and if i do what would i write in it. the only reason for quitting that i can think of is telling them that i don't think i'll be able to handle both working and going to school, but do you think that will be alright?? oh and when should i tell them i'm quitting?? i'm 14 by the way...

  1. First of all you don't have to write a letter, just go to your manager and give notice.

Tell him that you are starting school and unable to keep your school schedule w/ a job so you need to stop working but you would like to maybe return during the holidays(if you want) and defiantly return next summer stating = if you will have me back ~ most likely they will say yes esp if you did a great job.

Ask them if you can't do the entire 2 weeks then you should at least ask them how long do they need you to stay to find a replacement ~ most likely they will ask you first ;~) so just tell them that you will finish up your scheduled time and if they need a couple more days then you could do that but they will be fine so don't worry too much

Letters are more for management or higher level positions unless they ask you to sign some sort of agreement then go ahead and sign but you don't have to write a letter.

  2. My goodness!  Write a letter to corporate because you need to put school before the job.  Many states do not hire 14 year old kids anyway because it is in violation of child labor laws. Talk to your parents!  The manager of this franchise could face legal problems.  Your education comes first!

  3. yeah mcdonalds should expect it to be honest.

just write them a brief letter saying that you want to end your time at work, try not to use quit, and if you want to say you can work again in the xmas or next summer holidays...

dont worry about it too much, they're probablly used to it and its better to leave on good terms, so you can use them for a reference and work in the future

  4. Have your parents call the manager and tell them they don't want you working there anymore.  Just don't expect to get a job there again though

  5. Just tell them you are quitting, it happens all the time at McD the manager won't thing anything at all about it.

  6. Honey don't be scared. The next time you go to work tell then school will be starting and you have to quit, because you don't want work to interfere with school. Would your parents let you work Friday evening and Saturday?  then you could still have a little money for the mall.

  7. Since you have barely worked there a month, you won't be putting in on a resume or employment history for your next job, so it doesn't really matter what you do. I think you should just ask to be put on the schedule like once a week or every other weekend or something, that way you can still earn some $. If you don't want to do that, just tell your manager what's going on. A letter is not really necessary.

  8. Be honest and professional.  Writing a letter of resignation is always professional, but probalby not necessary since this was a part time job.  Just tell your supervisor that you need to speak to him/her when he has a moment and then explain that you've really enjoyed working there but you'll be starting school and will not be able to continue working.  Thank him or her for the opportunity and be sure to let them know when your last day will be.  (You should at least give them two weeks notice to find a replacement.)

  9. you should ALWAYS have a written resignation letter.

you should ALWAYS talk to your manager and tell them face to face and then give them the letter.

do this NOW, the sooner the better, they did not expect you to work much when school started due to child labor restrictions so this should not come as a big surprise. tell them you are quitting due to school and parents restrictions and thank them for the opportunity and training they provided. give as much notice as possible but if you can't do two weeks you have still done all you could do which is all anyone can ask of you.

there is nothing to be nevous about a lot of employees need to quit at this time of year it is part of the business. there are always some employees who work for the summer,  part-time and short-term that need to quit and as long as you communicate you will have a good reference and the opportunity to be hired again next spring.
