i know it's considerate to give a two weeks notice, but i am going to call in and quit (four hours before my 6h shift). the place makes me sick to my stomach. i was working grill and i wanted to vomit. it's really been effecting my mood as well. my managers tell me i'm doing ok, they don't complain to me... they go behind my back and complain to my co-workers that i'm slow. i'm slow because i do the proper things as i was e-trained, unlike everyone else who works grill.

what exactly can they demand from me? if i say i'm quitting and they say why do I have to, legally, give them more of a reason than the environment making me sick to my stomach every day? i don't want to let them push me around with this. i live in the united state, in new york state. I'm unsure if any of that matters... thanks so much.

  1. I used to work at McDonald's and i hated it, I had similar experiences with coworkers there and i just had nothing in common with the people who worked there; a really rough crowd.

Finally I got so sick of it and about 3 months in, i called up and quit, and i think it was day before i was meant to work. But you legally only need to give them two hours notice; my friend also quit and she found out if you cant come into work or if you want to quit, 2 hours is all you need.

They cant demand anything from you, although they'll probably ask you to return the uniform. (I still havent, and that was about 8 months ago!)

I called up my manager and said "Im sorry, ill no longer be able to work for you."

Dont let them intimidate you, you have rights and you dont have to give them any reason for quitting.

  2. just straight up tell them u quit anyone who likes that job wont care about manners

  3. Yes you should give notice but you have to do what's best for you, If the place is making you sick then you need to quit ASAP. When they ask you why tell them as much or as little as you want. They can't demand anything.

BTW managers talking about you behind your back is definitely not cool and no one should have to put up with that.

  4. Well your going to burn your bridge if you ever want to work for any company that McDonald's owns. They will not re-hire you.It is polite to give notice, and if you do,they ll reconsider hiring you back if you ever re-apply.Other than that,my motto is I came to job looking for one.I leave looking for one, after all they dont give you a 2 weeks notice if they're going to fire you.It is a good idea to have another job lined up before you quit though.

  5. The only thing about quitting this way is losing a recommendaton for your next job.

Quitting means u cannot collect unemployment; maybe that does not matter.

That said...if the joint is making you physically sick, tell the boss you would have given two weeks but u r puking ever day after the shift.  If he is not cool about that, you can always call OSHA or sue them for unsanitary working conditions.  Document EVERYTHING starting yesterday.

    Good luck, Mean Mike

  6. You can quit if you want to, you don't even need to give a reason!

  7. Just tell them you quit and that is it, Nothing they can do about it
