Question:

Quitting smoking and pregnancy??

by  |  earlier

I quit smoking almost 2 months ago, and we want to start ttc. Do you think it would be safe to start now or do we need to wait a while longer?

And to clear this up.. is it true that if you smoke and get pregnant and are farther along that you shouldnt quit, just cut back because it can harm the baby?

  1. I quit smoking 3 days after I found out I was pregnant. I went from smoking about 8 cigarettes a day, to zero in 3 days, and let me tell you, it was hard as anything, but it was the best thing I ever did.

I have heard that if you're a heavy smoker, and you try to quit cold-turkey, it could be dangerous to the baby, because the nicotine not only goes to you, but the baby too. Doctors generally advise women that are so addicted to cigarettes to cut back as much as possible.

As for you-- Congratulations on quitting!! That's a hard task, I know! I'm 100% positive that you've waited long enough to start TTC. So long as you have no nicotine in your body, the baby will not be affected.

    Good luck, and BABY DUST!

  2. it should be safe. it should only take a few weeks for the toxins to exit your body.

and in some cases the doctor will tell you to continue smoking bc quitting can put too much stress on the baby. but most people can safely quit.

  3. I was 5 weeks pregnant when I found out and I quit right away, smoking is awful for a baby!

  4. i have quit smoking everytime i fell pregnant withen days of finding out it wont hurt your baby to quit..it should be safe the caffine leaves withen days its just the tar left on your lungs that take a few months to clear

  5. Smoking is always harmful to the baby.  It stunts the baby's growth significantly.

Smoking while pregnant is a horrible thing to do!

Quitting all at once can be dangerous....quitting takes time....but if you get pregnant, you definately need to speed up that time so you can quit smoking fast before the damage done to the baby becomes too severe.

& it's never safe to smoke, pregnant or not.  But if you're pregnant, you're not the only person who's being harmed by it.

  6. Quiting smoking before or even during pregnancy is always beneficial to the baby.

  7. Congrats on beating the habit!!!  I think you are perfectly safe to start TTC.

As for smoking while pregnant, I have never heard of it being dangerous to cut it out cold turkey.  I think they recommend cutting back as opposed to quitting only because quitting can cause stress in the mom which also stresses the baby

  8. I was 6 weeks pregnant and i quit smoking haa omg i know how hard it is but think about the baby its bad for its health.

  9. I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my first, and I never picked it back up. Except when I drink, that's the only time. I heard that it can be stressful on the baby if you just suddenly stop smoking, but I don't know if it's true, so ask your doctor.
