I'm wasting so much money on cigarettes and hurting my health though no problems yet. I can't even wake up in the morning without lighting one up. I've tried cold turkey without luck. Any suggestions for others who have done this. Also willpower doesn't seem to be working for me. HELP!!!!

  1. Well I don't smoke, but my mom did. She smoked for YEARS and tried a few times and nothing helped. She ended up going to the hospital in May because she had severe problems breathing. She smoked 3 - 3 1/2 packs a DAY and she quit cold turkey. She is using the patch and it is really helping her. She is down to only using 1/2 patch a day and the cravings are pretty much gone and her food is never tasting better. She is 54 now and she started when she was a teen. If she can do it, so can you! Good luck!

  2. Smoke 3 a day this week. Next week smoke 2 a day. and the week after that only smoke 1 a week. and go from there.

  3. visit the cancer ward. That sounds harsh but it's true. My husband tried and tried to quit and couldn't do it. A while back a friend of ours was diagnosed with end stage lung cancer. We went and saw her and all of her hair was gone. She died several days later of phnemonia and cancer complications. Sam hasn't smoked since. We consider it her last gift to us.

  4. It is tough to help give advice if you can't quit col turkey, as I did when I got pregnant with my second son. Hearing all the dangers of second-hand smoke and how it can decrease the size of my baby, etc, really got to me and I was able to quit cold turkey and I have never craved a cigarette again.  That was 21 and a half years ago.

My third son is a smoker and he is only 19. He sometimes gets that bad cough and he is the one who is sick all the time.  My second son doesn't smoke and is never sick, eats right and takes vitamins. So, just realize how gray your lungs are now and if you quit NOW you can start clearing them out and helping put back the color in them, you'll be able to run from danger if you have to, or run for your health and you won't give your second-hand smoke to vulnerable people and you'll be helping the environment and your lifespan will be longer.

Good luck. It will be rewarding when you stop and you'll thank yourself and your friends and family will thank you.

  5. wen u go take a smoke say stop. ur killing ur lings and cutting ur life short. 10, 000 people a year die from smoking, just think that could be u.

  6. I have seen a lot of positive experiences using the new medication champix.   Ask your physician about it, from what i've seen it's been a lot more effective than welbutrin or gum/patch

  7. well im a kid but when i quit i just kept my mind occupied then after about a week i was fine

  8. If you need a cigarette as soon as you wake up, you'll need help.  Try Welbutrin with the patch.

  9. I tried cold turkey few times and failed, but in late March I suffered acute bronchitis from smoking. It was horrible, woke up breathless in 3 am, short breath, burning/sore chest and fatigue. That horrid experience had me quitted smoking since 04-15, cold turkey.

  10. Go to the American Lung Association website they have a program called Freedom From Smoking, it is free and you pick a quit day three  weeks from starting the program.  In  the meantime there are lessons to do and there are message boards for support.  Many people have quit using this site!

    Good luck.

  11. I've tried patches, i've tried gum, i've tried cold turkey, i've tried slowly cutting myself off, i've even bought fake cigarettes to at least give me the feeling of a cigarette in my hand. NOTHING has worked, and i finally came to the conclusion it was just because i didn't want to quit enough. Even though there is a physical addiction to cigarettes, i think for most people the worst part to overcome is the mental addiction of it. Of course everyone would love to quit because of money and health, but if your so dependent on a cigarette to the point where you can't start your day without one, you need to make sure you really want to quit before you try. I know it may be obvious advice but sometimes just hearing someone else say it helps. I really hope the best of luck to you, and if you find somthing that's a miracle worker let me know =D

  12. Gradually get off of it. Say you smoke 24 cigarettes a day. Every week, two weeks, whatever, take away one or two that you smoke and go from there.
