Hi, I've got an Audi 2001 8E, 2.0petrol Automatic. Yesterday i've put £20 petrol, which should give me around 130 miles according to the on board computer. Earlier today while driving, it was showing 90miles remaining, then just out of the blue, it just turned to 20miles!!!!! I was driving at 20 mph in a clear residential road with no jam whatsoever. Even the gauge is indicating nearly empty!!! What happened???? I just lost 70miles worth of petrol within second!!! Please help me. What happened????

  1. your car comp may be broke or just driving to slow or setting to long in one spot

  2. Could be a bad fuel level float in the gas tank. Either that or there are very clever chupacabras in your neighborhood and their appetite is not for blood anymore. Chupabenzinas!

  3. 2.0 petrol will never give you 130 miles for £20 petrol.

1.4 doesnt give me that much.

  4. Chupacubra's drinking petrol eh worrying! i have a range finder on my car and its never done that drastic drop however your driving style reflects on the readout it should level off again or you may have a leak in your tank or fuel lines get that checked out petrol as you know is expensive to keep losing

  5. Most tank senders use a float which operates on a coiled wire the resistance of which changes from the top (full dash gauge) to the bottom (empty dash gauge) it is possible for the float to stick so giving incorrect tank levels which in turn confuses the trip computer. The fault  can also be down to a poor electrical contact/multiplug the tank sensor/fuel pump can usually be accessed under the rear seat lower cushion

  6. does your car keep up with the cuurent petrol prices? it could be that the system works on litres not pounds and thus in todays climate you get less for your money! if its not down to that then you may have a faulty gauge, get it checked out at the garage, or at the dealership if still under warranty!
