when do I use the quotation with two bars ex: " rhyde" and when do i use the ones with single bars ex: 'dfgh ' ?

  1. The rules vary (from nation to nation and in some case from publishing house to publishing house), but generally speaking in American English...

    "Standard quotations use the doubled set.  Were I to incorporate someone else's words, however, inside this quote, 'as I'm doing right now', I would use the single quotes."

    Also remember:  single quotes displace punctuation (as is the case with that comma above after the word now), but double quotes embrace it (as with the word quotes, above).
