What is the significance of this? Thanks a lot

  1. To me it means that questions that have no definitive answer, such as questions about what happens after death or will your spouse love you forever, for instance, can give comfort to you just by the fact that you will never know.  Uncertainty has a certain comfort.  A round stone that you have in your pocket can be felt with the fingers, turned over and over, and can feel comfortable and soothing.  So can some types of unanswered questions.

    I don't necessarily agree with this point of view, but that is what I think it means.


  2. The quote uses metaphor to describe what life's unanswerable questions feel like- like heavy stones. You can warm them up/make them more alive, meaning you can't answer them. They are dead weight that you carry around with you. They are round and slippery- you can't get a grasp on them. Carrying around unanswerable questions is carrying a burden, something that we humans except as a consequence of life.
