  1. "...things which apply elsewhere often do not apply in New Mexico." Those words came from Ben Hur's author, Lew Wallace, when he was Governor of the territory after the Civil War. Today, what that means is that, because of its widely diverse and very thin population, NM doesn't support "niche" activities/professions/entities like more densely populated states do.
