I have an english Literature paper and i cant seem to understand what this quote means after reading it over and over "A proud heart can survive general general failure because such a failure does not prick its pride. It is more difficult and more bitter when a man fails alone ." Note you didnt have to read it to interpret it! Thanks!!

  1. There was a severe drought going on and when it ended Okonkwo and all the other villagers planted their seeds. Then the rainy season came and was so heavy that ALL of their crops were destroyed, leading one man in the village to hang himself.

The quote is saying that it doesn't sting as bad to fail when others are also failing. It would "prick a mans pride" (meaning it would be more shameful) if all the others in the village had grown their crops successfully and ONLY Okonkwos' crops had failed.
