  1. After a fight / war / battle is over, it really doesn't matter who you fought against or even what it was about, but instead who stood with you in the fight, and who stood by silently, not defending or encouraging you.

    pretty much someone will remember if their friend left them alone, because friends are supposed to be loyal. there are no loyalty ties to enemies. the theme of the quote: loyalty.

  5. I think it relates to n**i Germany.   When so many people let the n**i's "arrest" their friends and neighbors and yet they said nothing.



    So when you see someone being attacked or hurt in any way you need to speak up.  

    Because imagine you are being attacked perhaps physically and you look for your friends for help and they don't do anything at all to help you.
