  1. usually, when im quoting from a book or a line from a poem, i usually do it like this.................

    " ... insert quote here ... "                        <------Putting in italics)

    (author, year, pge number)

    then centre the whole lot

there are different ways, this is just a way that works for me. try different ones until you find one you like, looks attractive, and you think works the best

    hope i helped :-)

  2. If you are writing the essay on one particular book, say you were writing an essay on Moby d**k, then you would cite the page number and author the first time, and just the page number after that. Honestly, it depends on what format you are using to write your essay. MLA, APA(which is doubtful unless you are a psych major), Chicago, or Turabian? If you are writing this for an English class, I'm guessing it is MLA. If so, then cite the first as (Authors Last Name  page number). All the rest following that (if from the same book) cite as (page number). If you are quoting something as small as "the boy went to town" you are better off paraphrasing. Good luck.
