How do we properly quote this:

She told him that Daisy was doing "Everything that is not done here".

We don't know what to do about the capitalized "E" because it is the beginning of the sentence, and if we lower case it, it will be out of the original context. Please help!

  1. "She told him that Daisy was doing 'Everything that is not done here'."

there are two sets of quotes, each a sentence of its own right, even though one is in the other

  2. The Correct way to do this:

She told him that Daisy was doing "[e]verything that is not done here".

you cant do quote in a quote because the sentence is written by the essay writer... not the author himself.  Also it cannot be any old "e" it has to be in brackets because you're changing the original context to suit the purpose of the sentence.

  3. "Daisy was doing everything that is not done here," she told him.

  4. is this scentance from the great gatsby?
