Tomorrow in my world history class, we are discussing religion and I will receive extra credit if I can stand up in front of the class and preach for a while something similar to the religious article we had.

So would it be permissable if I used translated quotes from the Qur'an while doing the presentation/preach?

Because I remember reading a verse from the Qur'an that said it is not right to use the Qur'anic verses for your own needs.

  1. I feel for yr class.

  2. sure, but do it in a respectful way

  3. It is permissible to qoute from a translated Qur'ãn, provided that you do not interprent the Qur'ãn according to own opinion!

Al-Hadith: "Whoso interprets the Qur'ãn according to his opinion, then he has indeed committed sin." (Tirmizi, Abu Daud)

Al-Hadith: "Whoso interprets the Qur'ãn without knowledge, let him seek his abode in the Fire." (Tirmizi)

In the Qur'ãn there are two systems of meaning - the 'Muhkam' (fundamental) system of meaning and the 'Mutashabih' (derivative) system of meaning.

Be careful not to distort the meaning of the Qur'ãn with own logic and opinion!

The requisites for interpretations on the Qur'ãn are for example:

    knowledge of Ilme-Ma'aani (rhetoric)

Knowledge of Sababi-Nuzool (reason of revelation of ayat)

Knowledge of Usoole Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence)

    Knowledge of Ilme-Qiraat.

Ability to recognize which is 'Mubham' - ambiguous, and 'Mujmal' - brief or abridged.

etcetera... just a few necessarily requirements in passing authoritative interpretation and fully understanding the Qur'ãn! (even a translated version as it is still the sacred Word of ALLAH(SWT).

  4. well, if youre reading it in front of the class its like a form of dawa

    so i think it'll be okay. . . .

    not 100% sure tho

  5. Yes, you can , but you have to declare it is from the Qur'an.
