Qureshi/ Marach blast past Bolelli/Fognini into title match – PTT Thailand Open 2011
Top seeds, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan and Oliver Marach of Austria, displayed exceptional skills to slay third seeded Italians, Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini, with a breadstick at the PTT Thailand Open 2011, an indoor
hard court event held at the Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok, Thailand. They registered a 6-4, 6-1 success against the Italians to advance into the final on Friday.
The first time paired team of Qureshi and Marach eased past the lower seeds, who recently clinched their maiden title together at Umag in July, in straight sets in just forty-eight minutes.
The Pakistani Austrian duo stormed into the Thai’s indoor hard court and after their opponents held their serve in the opening game, they unleashes their true class to reel off next three games in a row. Qureshi and Marach bagged
their remaining serves convincingly to clinch the opener with a 6-4 score line. They never faced any hurdle or a breakpoint and in addition to this, the delighted newly formed pair capitalised on the only breakpoint chance to their advantage.
The high flying Pakistani Austrian tandem kept momentum running into the final set. They got the desiderated break in the very first game and after the Italians held their serve in the third game, Qureshi and Marach bombarded powerful
groundstrokes from their arsenal of tricks to reel off last four games in a row. They faced zero breakpoint and cashed in on all three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to earn the breadstick.
Regardless of spilling more errors and committing the only double fault in the match, the registered a spectacular 92 percent win on their first serve share to win convincingly.
Next up for the winning combination of Qureshi and Marach is the winner of the match between fourth seeds, Australian Paul Hanley and Belgian d**k Norman, and Germans, Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske. Qureshi and Marach need
to play their original game and in a similar way to triumph the title on their first tournament played together.
Second seeded Israelis, Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram, faced a different fate later that day.
They made quick in-roads to register a 6-2 victory over the Germans Kohlmann and Waske but then ran out of steam. Erlich and Ram failed to convert any of the six breakpoint opportunities to their advantage in the second set and
after saving only five out of six breakpoints faced, they suffered a 4-6 defeat.
In the super tie-breaker, the seeds could not cope up with the Germans and after formulating a poor co-ordination; they suffered a 7-10 loss.
