Qureshi/Rojer cripple Huey/Inglot to reach quarters – French Open 2012
Seeded 10th in the tournament, Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Netherland’s Jean-Julien Rojer, devastated the Filipino-Brit tandem, Treat Conrad Huey and Dominic Inglot, with a breadstick at the Roland Garros 2012 on Sunday. They nudged up
a 6-1, 6-4 victory against their rivals to cruise into the quarter-finals at this second of the four Grand Slam events held in Paris, France.
The in-form Pakistani-Dutch duo trashed their unseeded opponents in straight sets without losing their serve. After earning this glory, they not only secured a place in the final eight at this prestigious clay court tournament but also inched towards their
second year-to-date title. Their first title came at the Estoril Open where the pair was seeded top.
Qureshi and Rojer high-spiritedly entered the Court number Two and held their opening serve with poise. After Huey and Inglot plucked their serve in the second game, the Pakistani-Dutch collaboration unleashed their true potential and went on a five-game
killing spree. They swiped in their entire serves without facing any real challenge and cashed in half of the four break chances to pull out the opener with a breadstick.
The Pakistani-Dutch junction kept momentum floating into the follow-up set and earned the desiderated break in the third game to leap to a 3-1 lead. Later, they brushed off all three breakpoints they faced and ultimately clicked the set by winning six games
to four.
Summing up the seeds’ performance, Qureshi and Rojer ruled throughout the 77-minute marathon. They clobbered a better first serve share of 77 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 54 per cent and amazingly marked 40 out of 53 points on it. They also spilled
fewer unforced errors and finished the match by pocketing 66 points.
Next up for the Pakistani-Dutch tandem are the third seeds, France’s Michael Llodra and Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic. Llodra and Zimonjic rallied past 16th seeded Colombians, Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah Maksoud, in a three-set thriller to
set up this battle.
The top seeded duo, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, will accompany the Pakistani-Dutch junction in the final eight. They stomped over 15th seeded Americans, Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram, in straight sets to progress at this event.
